Driton Hyseni, who leads Kosovo’s delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, has shared exciting news about Kosovo’s upgraded involvement within the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Through a Facebook announcement, he revealed that the Kosovo Assembly delegation’s status has been raised to an associate member.

Hyseni emphasized that this upgrade represents the most advanced stage of participation Kosovo can achieve in the NATO Assembly ahead of becoming a full NATO member. “For many years, Kosovo had the status of an observer member. This decision will be formalized by voting in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly during its spring session, which will be held on May 27 in Sofia.”

He further elaborated that this advancement signifies not only an increase in the size of Kosovo’s delegation but also a deeper engagement in the Assembly’s decision-making processes. This includes the newfound ability to submit amendments and feedback directly on any process or document managed by the Assembly. Previously, such contributions had to be channeled through the delegations of supporting countries, notably Albania. “With the elevation of Kosovo’s representation level in the NATO Assembly, we will see an expansion of the delegation, greater involvement in the Assembly’s decisions, and the right to address amendments and comments for each process and document handled by the Assembly, which previously had to be done through the delegations of other countries, mainly Albania,” Hyseni highlighted.
